水晶甲和光療甲的不同之處
近年很多女性都鍾情於美甲，差不多全港九新界都開滿大大小小的美甲店，有些便宜到150港幣有交易，有些則需要700港幣以上，究竟除了價錢的差異外，還有什麼分別呢?作為消費者又應該如何去選擇一個美甲師呢?下面我將會為大家分析及講解指甲藝術，讓大家都可以深入了解美甲這個行業，做一個精明的消費者。
接受殖甲（指甲延長）技術前我們必須要知道殖甲技術分為哪幾類，殖甲技術最熱門可以分為水晶甲及樹脂甲（光療甲）。今次首先會講水晶甲與樹脂甲的分別。
水晶甲
100多年前已存在，據說是一名牙醫發明的，該牙醫的太太因指甲並不漂亮以自卑，牙醫為了令太太從拾信心便運用替病人補牙的物料造了一套假指甲給太太，這就是水晶甲的初形，因此水晶甲發明出來的原意是保護及美化指甲，水晶甲是需要利用水晶水及水晶粉混合形成一團像麵粉的粉糰，在其未乾之前(大約10- 15秒)用水晶筆塑造想要的形狀。水晶甲密度高，因此質地較硬，對於指甲矯型效果較好，能做到更漂亮的甲形，而且因水晶水與水晶粉混合以成的粉糰非流質，因此能做到立體花，亦能做出既薄而又富立體感的內藏花，所以在過往數十年，水晶甲在日本、韓國、美國等地方都大受歡迎，而且亦因為水晶甲創作空間較多，變化較大，所以各地的美甲比賽亦會以水晶甲為主。但因為水晶甲需要較高的技巧，並非人人都懂得做水晶甲。
水晶甲的缺點是水晶水是有一陣像洗甲水的臭味，未必人人都能接受，製造水晶水的配方可分為MMA及EMA兩大類別，前者是舊配分，美國已禁止使用，因其氣味長期吸入會令氣管收縮，而且該水晶水所做出來的水晶粉糰會永久侵蝕於指甲表面，有機會令其變成脆化或變軟，因對人體有害，所以並不合乎美國食物及藥品管理局(FDA)的安全標準。 EMA是新配方，已通過美國FDA檢定證明其氣味及成份對人體及指甲無害，只要正確使用是不會對人體或指甲做成任何損傷。
光療樹脂甲(GEL甲)
光療樹脂甲簡稱樹脂甲，因其形態像麥牙糖是流質，因此又名GEL甲，其成份與水晶甲類似，是由水晶甲演變出來的，簡單一點來說就有如水，水在很熱的情況下會化成水晶氣，以在很冷的情況下會結成冰，其實2者都一樣是水，只是形態不同以而。既然成份類似，因此亦有像水晶甲般分為MMA及EMA兩大配方，唯一不同的是，因為樹脂甲本身是沒有氣味的，因此就算使用對人體有害的MMA配方樹脂甲用品，都不會因其氣味以被客人發現。
樹脂甲在未接觸到UV燈前都是流質的，當一接觸到UV燈就會收縮及變硬，但其密度較低，硬度不及水晶甲好，而且富彈性因此不太做到矯型的效果。
樹脂甲的透光度理論上比水晶甲好(為何說是理論上?因為科技日新月異，發展至今，某些品牌的水晶用品已能做到樹脂甲的透光度效果)
樹脂甲是流質的，所以其創作空間細，變化較少，只能做到平面畫花效果，因此各地的美甲比賽及美甲書都很少會有樹脂甲出現。不過樹脂甲亦有好處的，好處便是容易掌握，而且易學，需要的技巧較少，可能亦因為如此，香港及大陸都是比較多人做樹脂甲，反而做水晶甲的人少之又少。
究竟水晶甲較好還是樹脂甲較好呢?其實好與不好是個人感受，根本無一個標準，若你問我，我會比較喜歡水晶甲，因為做出來的效果較好，甲形較修長，而且變化較大!不過唯一壞處就是密度高，令拆甲時較難磨走，反而樹脂甲因密度低，容易拆除，對於我來說，樹脂甲的最大壞處便是需要照UV燈，呆呆地等真的很痛苦：（
